Covid-19 Information – Watton Westfield

Dear parents and carers,

Following the government announcements, these plans have been considered carefully and are designed to continue to make school as Covid-safe as we possibly can, whilst returning to a new normal environment.

Westfield has always had a slightly staggered start and finish times to allow Nursery and Reception children to enter and leave the site whilst it is less busy, therefore these are the timings for arrival and collection:

For Early Years, Nursery children come to the main front door for Monkeys class and Hedgehogs front door for the 2-year-old nursery. Reception children will enter via the double doors directly into the hall. Class staff will meet you at the door where you will hand over. Parents do not come into the classrooms. Thank you.

Key Stage 1 children will be met at the playground gates by an adult from KS1 who will direct them to their classroom. Giraffes, Parrots and Penguins will need to enter via the right-hand gate and Cheetahs, Meerkats and Elephants will need to enter via the left-hand gate.

Please ensure your children arrive on time as it can be very unsettling for them to be late and also disrupts other children who will have started their morning learning.

At the end of the day, Hedgehog and Monkey children should be collected from the door you drop them off to. Please do not ring the doorbell as the staff will bring the children out at the correct time and match them to their adult.

Reception and Key Stage 1 should be collected from their classroom’s outside door. The main playground gates will be unlocked at 3.05pm for parents to walk across the playground and wait outside your child’s class. Please do not go beyond the railings for each class’s outdoor area and please keep younger siblings next to you. At the end of day your child’s teacher will dismiss the children one at a time once they have seen you are waiting.

PE: Children arriving in PE kit has helped KS1 tremendously with gaining time in the classroom for the PE lesson, therefore, all KS1 children will continue to need to arrive in their PE kit on their PE days.

Being able to dress themselves is part of the curriculum for Reception children, therefore, we would like them to bring their PE kit to school in a PE bag and leave it here for a half term before bringing it home for washing.

For PE, please ensure your child wears black joggers or shorts appropriate for the weather, trainers and their house-coloured PE shirt or sweatshirt available with the logo from Birds of Dereham, or without the logo from other retailers.

If you need to speak with the school office, staff may release the door and you can come into the lobby. The telephones are always very busy before 9am and you may wish to contact the office by email or look on the school website for answers to routine questions. Absence should always be reported to the office, but if you have a question for your child’s teacher you can message them directly via Class Dojo.

Please see the updated Covid advice from 1st April:

* adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and they no longer have a high temperature

*children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can go back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend

*adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be 3 days
